The Marine Science and Technology (MaST) Center is dedicated to
providing educational experiences to our students and the community
as stewards of water and land conservation, and to offering
community outreach programs for
the Puget Sound region.

Unique Features
- Located on Redondo Beach – 68’ of saltwater frontage
- Only college-owned facility with direct saltwater access
- Five aquariums, three touch tanks showcase more than 80
species of fish and invertebrates
- Open to the public weekly, used by K-12 school groups
regularly
- Third largest aquarium in Washington State
Challenges – Increased interest reveals MaST’s shortcomings
- Inadequate teaching and research space limits faculty usage
- Disproportionately high maintenance costs
- Inability to accommodate new academic programs and
technologies
- Limited public access space
The Vision – Modernize MaST and double size to 2,500 square
feet
- Modern, technology-based classrooms

Turning the Vision into Reality
- $2.0 million to replace and renovate existing structures
- $500,000 to endow and permanently fund scholarships, camps,
and community programs
- $1.2 million raised to date – private donations and state
matching fund, 100% giving from the HCC Trustees, HCC Foundation
