Start a legacy for
future generations
A bequest to Highline Community College will put your money to work
in your own community. Through generous gifts, endowments and
bequests, the Highline Community College Foundation is able to
support the college in training tomorrow's workforce and helping
local residents become productive members of society.
Legacy Planning Membership in the Heritage Society is based upon
your desire to remember Highline Community College Foundation in
your estate plans or will. In addition to providing security to
people and institutions you care about, charitable estate planning
can help solve tax/financial problems and achieve current financial
planning goals. There are many charitable estate planning options.
If you are interested in joining the Heritage Society by making a
bequest or trust, you or your advisor are welcome to contact us. Call the Foundation office at (206) 870-3774, if
you would like to confidentially discuss a gift you may be
considering.
Society Members-
"It doesn't get any better than this!" wrote Mary Lou Holland in a
memo a couple of years ago to then Highline Community College
president Ed Command. She was awarded the Ruth E. Boynton Award at
the American College Health Association annual meeting in Orlando. Retired but still active
was her description of her volunteer
work and long hours of drug testing for the Olympic summer games in
Atlanta. Her untimely passing moved friends and
relatives to establish a Highline Community College scholarship in
her name, the Mary Lou Holland Scholarship. A living memorial was
also planted on campus in her memory.
Betty Malkuch lost her battle with cancer in 1997. She
dedicated 31 years of service to Highline Community College. On
campus she was known for her generosity, willingness to help others,
warm smile, and excellence in performing her duties as Executive
Assistant to the President. Friends and family will miss her singing
and piano playing as well as her gracious warmth in sharing her
talent with others. In an outpouring of expression, friends and
co-workers established the Betty Malkuch Scholarship Fund through the
Foundation.
Creating a Memorial Fund-
Anyone may donate cash, stock or property in memory or in
honor of another person. Memorials usually are for those who have
passed away. Gifts "In Honor of" may be in honor of an anniversary,
wedding, birth, grand opening or other occasion. If you
provide the address for the person(s) being honored or for the
family of the deceased, a letter will be sent to them acknowledging
your gift to the Highline Community College Foundation on their
behalf. A written acknowledgment will also appear in the Foundation
annual report.
Gifts valued at $500 or more may be designated for a scholarship in
the name of the honoree. Family members or fellow employees may pool
their gifts to create a memorial scholarship. In some instances a
living memorial on campus or a plaque may be established in honor of
a person close to the college. The Foundation and President of
Highline Community College are responsible for such designations.
